Fatboy products aren’t afraid to be a little tongue-in-cheek. We make it a point to convey this in everything we create, while also guaranteeing the sustainability and precise design that we know our customers believe in. We constantly tinker and monitor our products, making sure they are both environmentally conscious and safe for customers and our employees. Our work ethic of safety in all aspects pervades our choice of raw materials, suppliers and the definitive composition of our products.
Did you know that flame retardant chemicals are not necessary for fire safety? Numerous scientific studies have found that flame retardant chemicals pose a definitive health risk and these chemicals can persist in the environment and accumulate in the bodies of people and animals. In fact California has restricted the sale of upholstered indoor furniture & juvenile products containing greater than 1000 ppm of any flame retardant chemical through the passage of Assembly Bill 2998.
We take environmental and health issues seriously, so we have worked closely with our fabric and foam suppliers and removed flame retardant chemicals from our indoor furniture products. All of our non-fire retardant materials have all been tested and have passed the required flammability standards for upholstered furniture. Here at Fatboy, we are proud to offer our products that are free of unnecessary toxic chemicals and maintaining the highest safety standards, while still providing you with inspiring quality products that you can enjoy for years to come!
At Fatboy, we’re constantly looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact. From our products and packaging methods to recycling supplies and donating leftover fabric and swatches, we believe sustainability is just as important as making high-quality products. We are constantly seeking new and more effective ways to conserve natural resources, reduce waste, minimize pollution and preserve the earth for generations to come. Along with our inhouse recycling programs for paper, plastic, batteries, and electronics, we strive to reduce our environmental footprint one beanbag at a time.
How does your fabulous Fatboy product get to you? It arrives packaged in a cardboard box that is made in part from recycled material and can be recycled. The average American uses seven trees per year in paper products, including cardboard. According to some recycling advocates, every ton of recycled cardboard saves 9 cubic yards of landfill space. Ultimately, it's just common sense that recycling cardboard is a more sustainable option than cutting down trees to make virgin paper products. So after you unpack your fun new Fatboy, be sure to reuse or recycle that cool and awesome Fatboy box!
And we can’t forget our outdoor collections! Some of our outdoor furniture collections are made from Sunbrella® fabrics. Sunbrella® was founded on the belief that fabrics should be both beautiful and functional. They began in the 1960s with the challenge of creating an awning canvas with a substantially longer lifespan than cotton.
Sunbrella® textiles are made with close attention to design detail, and engineered with robust performance characteristics that provide resistance to fading and degradation from sunlight and chemical exposure. The fabric is tactile yet durable, has industry-leading environmental characteristics, is easy to care for and offers long life.
Just as importantly, Sunbrella® products are rooted in sustainability throughout the manufacturing of the fiber, yarn, and fabric. Sunbrella® textiles hold their color and strength, outlasting traditional fabrics. Their dedication to quality ensures that you are getting a product that lasts longer and needs to be replaced less often, ultimately creating less waste!
Ethical Labor Practices and Responsible Sourcing
